Kid's Writing about Nature (by Spencer and Kamilla)

Turtles (8/23/2021) by Kamilla

Today we woke up early to see turtles!  They were so cute.  We went to the turtle hatchery! We helped turtles at I-3.  I picked up some turtles and put them in a bucket.  My friends helped too. Me and my friends carried the bucket to Section 5.  Then we took them out of the bucket.  They went to the sea! One turtle had a super strong left flipper.  It went in circles.  Then we went home after eating fruit loops.  The end.

The"Speed" of the Spinning Turtle (8/22/2021) by Spencer

Today dad woke me up very early in the morning.  "Ugh," I groaned and sat up.  "I told you not to wake me up."

"We'll Yvette told me to do it anyway."

    "Dad!"

We changed into clothes, packed some food and got in the golf cart.  When we were there I picked a random spot in the river and pointed.  "Hey, was that croc there before?" My dad's face was priceless.  It was amazing.  "Fooled you,"  I said.  I laughed.  "The look on your face!  Ha!"  We crossed the river and went to the turtle reserve.  A lady there was carrying some baby turtles out to sea.  We stopped by to watch.  In 15 minutes (about) all but one were gone.  This one was right flippered I guess because it kept turning left.  Then we ate lunch and went home.

Macaws (9/3/2021) by Kamilla

Me and my family went to a macaw reserve to see macaws.  They were soooooooooooooo pretty as they dashed and darted.  They were rainbow macaws.  We bought a tree ornament.  It was made out of felt.

The Trip to the Macaw Reserve in Costa Rica by Spencer

Our trip to the macaw reserve.  I yawned and sat up, then I remembered that our trip to the macaw reserve was today!  I got up, changed and ate breakfast, and then got in the car.  We drove to the reserve, checked out the gift shop and went over why the macaws are endangered - dying as pets, hunting, deforestation and pollution; and how the reserve is helping them - feeding, breeding, etc.  Then we went down with a guide to see the macaws.  She told us to look out for feathers.  Then she put out the food (mangoes, plantains, pumpkin seeds, garbanzos and nutritional powder) on trays and hoisted them up in the trees.  After that it was just about finding feathers and watching macaws. I counted 9.
